Paisley Babylon News

Paisley Babylon’s next full-length release is nearly finished. Called “Electronic Acid”, the album so far is 11 tracks of surrealism, a dose of harsh ambient, a dash of power electronics, aural hallucinations and inner journeys to outer space. Samples are coming soon, and there will be a single or two released from this album in remixed form prior to the official album launch.

In the meantime, Paisley Babylon’s Joe Wallace has been working with Esmeralda Trujillo on a project called Binary Partners, with a live performance scheduled in December ahead of a full-length LP release scheduled for early 2013. In the meantime, here’s a sample of what to expect from Binary Partners, which is a return to old-school first generation industrial and experimental music (before the industrial genre became overtaken by sequenced drum tracks, cocaine abuse, and football fans–think Throbbing Gristle, Coil, and Wire rather than Ministry and Pigface.)

Paisley Babylon Scoring Soundtrack for Chicago Indie Short Film 45 RPM

The latest Paisley Babylon news is soundtrack-related; PB is scoring music and atmospheres for the Chicago indie short film, 45 RPM. It’s a murder mystery featuring a clue heard on a seven-inch single and there will be sinister music and Morricone-esque cues throughout.

A rough cut of the film is being worked at the time of this writing and Paisley Babylon heads into the studio soon to record the eerie sounds required, as well as intro and closing credit music.

This isn’t the first time Paisley Babylon has done soundtrack sounds, but it’s the first horror film project and it’s hoped that this will be a larger part of the Paisley Babylon experience in the future. Soundtracks are a particular favorite in the PB camp; Ennio Morricone, Bruno Nicolai, John Carpenter, Dust Brothers, so many name and sounds…all married to images on the silver screen, but just as powerful as stand-alone musical experiences.

45 RPM wrapped principal photography in August and will hit the film festival and horror convention circuit in 2013; updates on the film and soundtrack as things develop.

Paisley Babylon at OhNo!Doom Gallery Group Show “Adventure Time”

Paisley Babylon is part of Adventure Time!, a month-long group show at OhNo!Doom Gallery in Chicago. The opening was Saturday August 11 to a packed house.

Adventure Time! features a wide range of artists and mediums, but Paisley Babylon had the one and only video project in the show. It’s a mashup of scenes from the Cartoon Network show Adventure Time, plus insane, random-yet-connected scenes from a variety of drive-in exploitation movies, Italian horror films, insane Turkish action flicks, and drive-in intermission clips. Here are some images from the opening at OhNo!Doom Gallery in case you missed it…

Post Mortem Telepathy Live at DMZ, San Antonio, Texas

Back in the mid to late 90s, Paisley Babylon was involved with a collective music/mashup/remix project called Post Mortem Telepathy, which featured members of Crevice, Mission Giant, The Lysergic Dream, and other rotating members. This performance video features Post Mortem Telepathy as a two-piece with Lysergic Dream on the right and Paisley Babylon on the left, throwing their respective influences and techniques into the maelstrom to see what got hurtled back out again.

This brief excerpt is a video sculpture created from footage and audio of a live performance at San Antonio, Texas club DMZ and is a strange beast indeed…
