The Paisley Babylon show in Not The Film Room was a success thanks to a lot of love from Windycon convention goers, the support of the excellent Ten Wing Media folks and many others. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! WindyCon 2014 was fun, wine-fuelled and had a few surprises…especially great (performance time aside) was getting to see the new film by Ten Wing Media, Citizen In The Temple. Sci-Fi dystopian futures as only Ten Wing can envision–Paisley Babylon recommended!
Paisley Babylon has a busy winter ahead. The next convention appearance is at Not The Film Room at Capricon 35 , which hits February 12-15 2015 at the Westin North Shore in Wheeling, Illinois.
The Paisley Babylon related project Texas Turntable Massacre will feature a full-length CD release party on Friday December 19 2014 at StudioLab located in the Fashion Design Center, 5th Floor of the Bridgeport Art Center at 1200 W. 35th Street in Chicago. Do not miss this one-of-a-kind CD which features audio insanity from heavily manipulated dollar bin vinyl records, plus theremin and vintage analog synth. You can buy a digital version of this album at the Texas Turntable Massacre site on Bandcamp.
THIS SATURDAY! Paisley Babylon does a TWO THEREMIN performance at Windycon, which is held at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center, 70 Yorktown Center, Lombard IL.
The Paisley Babylon show is in Windycon party suite 1543 and begins promptly at 8PM. There will be not one, but TWO theremins used in the performance as well as a nice helping of bizarre, surreal visuals and a merchandise table featuring pay-what-you-prefer pricing for the very first Paisley Babylon CD ever, released way back in 1998 by Uncle Buzz Records.
Paisley Babylon will perform all new material including a nicely strange looper performance that involves spontaneous, on-the-spot song creation using the amazing Electro-Harmonix 45000 looper box.
Paisley Babylon has been compared to the soundtrack work of John Carpenter, Fabio Frizzi, Stereolab and Funki Porcini. If you enjoy surreal, hallucinatory sounds with a dash of voyeurism, this is the event for you.
Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind performance. Stand by for weirdness and BYOB. Join PB at Windycon THIS WEEKEND for the Saturday performance in Windycon party suite 1543 and begins promptly at 8PM.
WINDYCON is held at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center, 70 Yorktown Center, Lombard IL.
Back in 1997, Paisley Babylon was hard at work recording and polishing The Alpha Wave Variations, which was released on the Texas label, Uncle Buzz Records.
The Alpha Wave Variations was the first CD by PB and featured an incredible amount of dark ambience, creepy horror movie-inspired textures and more than a few references to the David Cronenberg film Videodrome.
Fans of Nurse With Wound, Coil, Throbbing Gristle, and the Experimental section of the record store will find much to identify with. There’s also plenty of moody rhythmic activity going on here-it’s definitely not navel gazing synth noodling with no clear direction or purpose. The album was recorded between the hours of midnight and 4AM and that late-night surrealist vibe is definitely present all through the listening experience.
Today The Alpha Wave Variations is finally available in its entirety for digital download. Would you like to listen to the album in all its dark, unusual hallucinatory glory? It’s available below:
I must be out of my mind. I started a new project–an offshoot of Paisley Babylon–called the Texas Turntable Massacre. It’s a very vinyl-heavy music project featuring a large amount of Burroughsian cut-up technique with dollar bin records, thift store vinyl finds, obscure weird old TV preacher LPs, and liberal helpings of theremin and Moog.
There is a new album coming out in December by Texas Turntable Massacre called “Donner Party Hungry”. To coincide with this release, I will put out several EPs on CD/digital download and as an incentive to buy I’m going to offer all who purchase the limited editions a unique piece of newsprint art that specifically ties in to the album’s content.
Details on that including where to buy are forthcoming, but for now, you can sample a track off the upcoming album by way of the Soundcloud.com clip below:
The image above is the very limited edition Gideon Wolf CD, Diagram, with packaging and distribution by Time Released Sound, which is, as the official site decribes, “a lovingly hand made, limited edition release music label that is as much an art project as it is a musical outlet.”
This is fantastic! A huge inspiration to me here, I’m going to try my hand at something in the same spirit with Paisley Babylon, but naturally more darkly funny and slightly menacing. This record label is an outstanding concept and has really kicked me in the pants to continue some ideas I had toyed with in 2008 with unique packaging of CDs (to resemble LP packaging instead).
Bravo to some outstanding music packaging ideas well thought out and fully realized…you owe yourself a look at these.
